THE HOLY SPIRIT
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
• The Holy Spirit is God Himself. He is the third person of the trinity.
He’s the first Person to be revealed in the Scriptures.
He is the doer of the things of God. He is a member of the Godhead.
When God speaks, He goes into action!
He brooded over the face of the waters until God spoke (Genesis 1:2), then He went into action. He created the earth.
• He is the angel of God’s presence (Isaiah 63:9). He is the person that brings to us on earth the presence of God the Father. Jesus is in heaven, but His presence can be felt here on earth through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. God dwells between the cherubims of glory, but His presence can be felt in this world through the Holy Ghost.
• Being a Spirit, we cannot see Him with the optical eyes, but we can see His manifestation. He is as real as the person sitting next to you (John 14:17).
• He has a personality, just as every human being has a personality. He can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30), and can talk (Acts 13:2).
• As big as God is, He is abe to dwell in us but He is able to dwell in us by the Holy Spirit.
• Jesus said in John 14:16, And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever;
The Comforter here is the Holy Spirit. Comforter is from the Greek word
Allos Parakletos. Allos meaning another of the same kind. Parakletos, referring to One called to go alongside.
He is same with Jesus our Lord, He talks, heals, saves and does everything like Jesus.
• God is in Heaven and Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, the Holy Spirit takes the presence of God everywhere. Hallelujah!
THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE LIFE OF A CHRISTIAN
Acts 1:8, Luke 4:17-18
• When a man receives the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit gives him the dynamic ability to live the Christian life successfully.
• It is impossible to win another to Christ without the power of the Holy Spirit.
SEVEN SYNONYMS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Seven synonyms of the Holy Ghost can be seen in John 14:16 (Amp)
It says,
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another
Comforter
(Counselor,
Helper,
Intercessor,
Advocate,
Strengthener, and
Standby),
that He may remain with you forever…”
HOW TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT - Acts 1:8, Acts 19:6
Every Christian can receive the Holy Spirit as this is not restricted to a selected few but to all believers. The Christian can receive:
• Through the laying of hands
• Through confession
SPEAKING IN TONGUES AND ITS PURPOSES
When a Christian has received the Holy Spirit, this must manifest by the ability to speak in other tongues.
The reasons for speaking in tongues are as follows:
• It is one of the signs of a believer. Mark 16:17
• To Build our faith. Jude 20
• To Edify yourself. 1 Corinthians 14:4
• To Glorify God. Acts 10:46, 1 Corinthians 14:16-17
• To Speak Mysteries to God. 1 Corinthians 14:2a
THE SEVEN SPIRITS OF GOD
This can be seen in Isaiah 11:2. It says, And
1. The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,
2. The spirit of wisdom and
3. Understanding,
4. The spirit of counsel and
5. Might,
6. The spirit of knowledge and of
7. The fear of the LORD;
So we have, the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of wisdom, the Spirit of understanding, the Spirit of counsel, the Spirit of might, the Spirit of knowledge and the Spirit of the fear of the Lord.
These are 7 independent manifestations of the Spirit.
Are you are born again but you haven’t been filled with the Holy Ghost? The Lord wants you to receive Him today. Your salvation is the only qualification you require to receive the Holy Spirit. Now, you can simply ask by faith and receive Him into your spirit.
Say these words out loud in faith, expecting to receive:
“Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the Gift of the Holy Spirit. As Your child, I now receive Him by faith to come and dwell in my heart. I receive Him into my soul and my body. I receive Him into every fibre of my being. I am now filled with the Holy Spirit, and according to Your Word in Acts 2:4, I speak with
other tongues as He gives me utterance, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.”
You have received the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Now open your mouth by faith
and begin to utter those words of the Spirit that are coming from your innermost being. Praise the Lord!
